Have you heard of Tea Tree Oil? It seems like it is everywhere these days. In shampoos, makeup and a lot of beauty products. But in its pure form, it is actually more efficient and a less expensive treatment and a great at home remedy.

Just take a small drop of tea tree oil and rub it on the pimple. I wouldn’t recommend it all over your face, just on the acne area. If it stings too much, dilute it with water. If it is still too much, wear it for about 5-10 minutes, and then wash it off. You will feel a refreshing effect.

Another way to use it is in a mask recommended to me by a cosmetologist:

AT HOME RECIPE:

  • Take half a spoon of baking soda, squeeze out some lemon to make it in to a liquid paste, and then add 3-5 drops of tea tree oil.
  • Mix it all up and put it all over your face.
  • Wash off in 15-20 minutes.

Not only can this help your acne, but in personal experience, I’ve seen a difference in my skin where the redness has diminished.  Tea tree oil works because it has antimicrobial properties and kills some bacteria that causes acne.

Mayoclinic Reports:

“Tea tree oil is purported to have antiseptic properties and has been used traditionally to prevent and treat infections. While numerous laboratory studies have demonstrated antimicrobial properties of tea tree oil (likely due to the compound terpinen-4-ol)” and “Human studies have focused on the use of topical tea tree oil for fungal infections (including fungal infections of the nails and athlete’s foot), acne…”

NYTimes.com Reports:

A small number of studies have found it particularly effective against mild to moderate acne.
